Monterey Car Week Auctions - Final Results

OVERVIEW
While the market remains measurably strong, no new records were set for either the sell through rate or total sales. New record prices were set for some highly coveted vehicles, which in the recent past either held little interest to buyers or had remained unavailable for sale.

Final results were 10% to 20% lower than expectations, depending on individual auctions, and there were some surprises along the way. As an example, this was the first auction event in which Ferrari's did not lead. Another was the $13,750,000 price for a 1962 Shelby Cobra.

Leading the pack was the 1955 Jaguar D-Type, winner of the 1956 24 Hours of Le Mans, which brought in a total of $21,780,000, an auction record for a British automobile. A coveted model, the elegant 1939 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Lungo Spider glided to a record price of $19,800,000 (the most valuable pre-war automobile ever sold at auction), and the 1967 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 Series II blew away its pre-sale estimate with a final price of $737,000.

Gooding and Company reported $129,789,750 in total sales, Bonhams Quail Lodge Auction,  boasted of an 88% sell-through rate with a total of $34.8-million, while Russo & Steele, Mecum and Rick Cole Auctions have not yet provided final results
